SCRIPTURE READING: Psalm 70:1-5(NIV)
1 Hasten, O God, to save me; come quickly, LORD, to help me.
2 May those who want to take my life be put to shame and confusion; may all who desire my ruin be turned back in disgrace.
3 May those who say to me, “Aha! Aha!” turn back because of their shame.
4 But may all who seek you rejoice and be glad in you; may those who long for your saving help always say, “The LORD is great!”
5 But as for me, I am poor and needy; come quickly to me, O God. You are my help and my deliverer; LORD, do not delay.
QUESTION FOR REFLECTION
* Q6: Is there any prayer for me to remember?
Scripture Union Daily Guide 3 May 2024 – MESSAGE
This is a prayer of desperation. Have you ever been in a desperate situation? Either in grave danger or dire need of provision or healing or deliverance from sin! Quit notice, at point of death or complete lack? You may then understand the background from which this prayer of David sprang forth. Can you cry out to your only and able deliverer like David did; “Please, God, rescue me!” (NLT) But be sure to cry in faith not in fear for from the Lord comes “escape from death” (Psalm 68:20 NIV).
Mark the note of urgency in v.1b. This prayer to God addresses three categories of people. (1) David himself who was in a desperate situation – for his rescue (vs.1, 5). (2) The agents of wickedness who love violence and delight in making trouble – that God will frustrate their plans resulting in their shame, humiliation, confusion, and surprise (vs.2-3). (3) Those who love and seek God – that they may be continually filled with joy and gladness (v.4).
One thing is certain; the devil and his agents are ever out to threaten and attack the righteous. But once we call on our mighty God, we can trust Him to put them in disarray and give us a resounding victory.
Practice/Word Application
