• Is there any command for me to obey?
Scripture Union Daily Guide 28th January 2021 Message:
When we ask God to bless us, it is very clear what we mean. We are requesting His grace and favour, asking Him to provide for our many human desires and needs. But what does it mean when we talk of blessing Him? What grace and favour do we possess that we can give to God? What are His needs that we can supply? The Hebrew word translated as “bless” here can equally be translated as “praise” or “kneel.” And so, when we bless the Lord, we kneel before Him in praise and worship.
See Psalm 50: 23a; 100: 3. This is the last of the Songs of Ascent, (See the Notes for Sunday, January 15). Being the last, it comes with the final blessing in an act of worship. Bible scholars have noticed two teams here, singing the hymn responsively. The congregation calls on the leaders (the Priests and Levites) encouraging them to do their duty of blessing the Lord through the night. They, in turn, respond in v.3, calling down God’s blessing on the people.
• So what? In what way do you bless the Lord and encourage others to do the same?
• Any new insight or reinforcement of what you already know?
• I bless you today, my Lord, with all my heart. • Pray for Human Rights organizations to take interest in the persecution of Christians.
