Scripture Union Daily Guide 27 December 2025 Outline
Read Matthew 2:13-15 again and take note of the clear and specific revelation given to Joseph about Herod’s plot against the boy Jesus and instructions about how to escape it. And this was exactly what Herod did (Matthew 2:16-17). Why? Compare Matthew 2:3 with Matthew 2:16-18. Had Joseph disobeyed, how would this story have changed?
Herod had lied to the Magi, he intended to eliminate the boy Jesus, but he pretended that he would also like to go worship Him (Matthew 2:8). So, he requested that after finding the child, they should come back to tell him. By the time he realised that he had been outwitted by the Magi, it was too late, and Jesus had escaped to Egypt. No one can outwit God. No one can truncate God’s plan. “There is no wisdom, no insight, no plan that can succeed against the Lord” (Proverbs 21:30).
What can we learn from Joseph in Matthew 2:14? There are deceptive people like Herod who pretend to be your friend but who are enemies. Don’t be afraid of them, but deal wisely with them, and be sensitive to God’s instructions concerning your relationship with them.
And So
Relax! Whatever the enemy does, will eventually work out for your good (Romans 8:28).
