TOPIC: Surely, the Lord is in this place

Scripture Union Daily Guide 26th June 2022 Opening Prayer: Lord, I pray that you lead me into your truth as I meditate on your word in Jesus name.

      Scripture: Genesis 28:10‐22
      Question(s) for Reflection
      • What does the passage teach about God the Father, or God the Son or God the Holy Spirit?
      • Is there any promise for me to believe or hope for?

Scripture Union Daily Guide 26th June 2022 Message

Can you remember how you felt the day you left home for the first time, all on your own probably as a teenager? It is usually a mixture of fear and excitement. You are afraid because you are leaving the comfort and protection of your parents, but excited that you are growing up and ready for the adventure that lies ahead. Jacob probably felt the same way.

More so that he was running away like a fugitive. Confused, lonely and tired from the journey, he laid down to rest and then God appeared to him (vs.10‐12). That must have been a refreshing and reassuring experience for Jacob. Read vs.13‐15 again carefully and note the seven covenant promises God made with Jacob that night.

What other profound truth is there for us in vs.16‐17? How did he respond to this divine encounter and what can we learn from it (vs.18‐20)? Because we are His covenant children, through Christ Jesus, God is ever present with us, whether we realise it or not (Matthew 28:20 and Hebrews 13:5). Let this motivate us to worship Him with all our hearts, resources, and life.

      Practice/Word Application
Reflection: Consider Jacob’s statement in vs.20‐22. Does it reflect faith in God’s promise? How often do we make such statements even after God has given His word?

      • Any new insight or reinforcement of what you already know?

Scripture Union Daily Guide 26th June 2022 Closing Prayer
      • Thank you, Lord Jesus, for your abiding presence with me at all times.

Offer a prayer of faith in line with Psalms 147:3
