Scripture Union Daily Guide 26th January 2025 – OUTLINE
Moses knew his limitation when it came to traversing the desert. He recognized the expertise of Hobab to make the journey to the place the Lord had promised to settle them (Numbers 10:29-31). Moses was anticipating that there may be some challenges on the way which may require someone who understands the terrain of the area. Including Hobab, therefore, was to help address the difficulties they may encounter.
Though Israel was guided by God, there was still help needed from men – men like Hobab. God plans it this way, often arranging it so His help comes to us partially through people He has ordained to help us. For example, God is the healer but often uses the help of medical personnel.
Read chapter Numbers 11:1-3 again. Despite all that the Lord had done for Israel, they continue to murmur against Him for every little inconvenience. There are those who will always find one thing or another to complain about whatever favour the Lord might have poured on them. Notice the consequence of their murmuring (Numbers 11:1). God’s mercy continues to be extended to His people whenever they run to Him in repentance.
