Opening Prayer: Dear Lord, expose me to your truth as I read your word in Jesus name.
Scripture: Hebrew 2:1-9
Question(s) for Reflection
• What does the passage teach about God the Father, God the Son or God the Holy Spirit? • Is there any warning for me to heed?
The Mosaic Law could not provide a competent and permanent solution for sin. But God in His mercy and grace provided a better solution through Jesus Christ. However, because salvation through our Lord Jesus Christ seemed so simple, the so-called wise men of the world despise it (Romans 1:16b).
The writer of Hebrews therefore cautions us to be careful how we respond to the gospel (v.1). What are the reasons for this caution (vs.2-4)? Humanly speaking, it seems foolish that the creator of all things (Colossians 1:16-17) could become human and pass through all the suffering that He experienced (Philippians 2:5-8). But He went through all of it in order to restore us to our original position in the plan of God, a position we lost in the Garden of Eden (vs.5-8 cf. Genesis 1:26-28).
Jesus made Himself temporarily lower than the angel (i.e. becoming man) just to purchase our salvation. He tasted suffering and death not for any sin of His but for our sins (v.9). To take such a magnanimous sacrifice lightly shall make us liable to a just judgment from God.. ..
