Scripture Union Daily Guide 26 May 2022 MESSAGE
The purpose of the Old Testament (the Law and the Prophet) is to point the way to Jesus. Again, Jesus is not implying by this parable that all rich people will go to hell and the poor to heaven. The kingdom of God, salvation through Christ, is preached everywhere. All who listen to it and take action, by repenting of their sins and putting their trust in the death of Jesus, will be saved and will enter into heaven whether rich or poor.
Note the various requests of the rich man and Abraham’s responses. These show clearly that there is no chance for negotiation after death. You choose where you will spend eternity here and now. The Yorubas of Nigeria used to install the stone for sharpening their cutlasses in the village. They say that anyone who goes to the farm with a blunt cutlass will realise his foolishness finally on the farm.
So it was with this rich man. So it will be for any who rejects Christ’s offer of salvation here and now. Take particular notice of Abraham’s response in v.31. Jesus came back from the grave, but the religious leaders not only refused to believe eye‐witness report, they also tried to silence their testimony (see Matthew 28:11‐15). What is your stand on v.18?

Closing Prayer
• Help me, dear Lord, to be a faithful witness to my generation and alert them to the reality of heaven and hell.
Offer a prayer of faith in line with Psalms 3:8

› The deliberate training provided for our SUCF leaders and the Train the Trainers Programme for Pilgrims, Children, Missions and Schools.
› The plan to ensure consistency and continuity in the provision of trained and skillful personnel.
PRAY FOR:
› More Pilgrims and SUCF leaders who will be trained to continue to guide the people and the vision of SU in perfection.
› Servant‐Leadership Spirit in order to continue to portray the love of Jesus in their work.
› Total obedience to the teaching and leading of the Holy Spirit in all they do.
PRAY AGAINST:
∷ Unfaithfulness and unaccountability among the SUCF leaders.
∷ Leaving the standard of God for the work by using unserious people.
