TOPIC: The Blessed

OPENING PRAYER: Dear Lord, I pray that you sanctify my spirit, soul and body as I read your word in Jesus name.

TODAY’S SCRIPTURE: Luke 6:12‐26

Question(s) for Reflection
• Is there any example for me to follow or not to follow?
• Is there any warning for me to heed?

Scripture Union Daily Guide 26 January 2022 MESSAGE

It is important that we follow the example of our Lord when we want to make important decision (vs.12,13). The choice of the twelve disciples was key to His ministry. These men would be saddled with the responsibility of carrying the ministry forward.

God knows the heart of each of us, so He chose each of these people. Left to us, how many of these twelve would we have considered qualified for recruitment: the four uneducated ordinary fishermen (Acts 4:13b), Matthew ‐ a tax collector or ‘sinner’, Simon, a political activist etc.

We are equally not qualified to be called by our Lord. We are chosen by grace alone! Christ’s message turns human expectations upside down. Nobody considers it a blessing to be poor, hungry or weeping (vs.20‐21), or to be hated, insulted or rejected (v.22). When we belong to Jesus and seek to live under the principles of his kingdom, however, all these things take on a different meaning.

It is important that we are not suffering in all of these different ways because of our own wrongdoing (1 Peter 4:15‐16). See also Matthew 5:3‐12.

PRAYER FOCUS

SLAVES TO RIGHTEOUSNESS
Likewise you also, reckon yourselves to be dead to sin, but alive to God in Christ Jesus our Lord. Romans 6:11

THANK GOD FOR:

  • Making us His sons who abide with Him, and walk in Him daily.
  • Giving us the power to become the sons of God.
PRAY FOR:
  • Grace to continue to stand fast in the liberty which Christ has given us .
  • Continuously yoking with Christ so that this Christian race will be easy.
  • Grace to daily offer ourselves as instruments of righteousness.

PRAY AGAINST:
∷ Our presenting ourselves as instruments of unrighteousness instead of righteousness. ∷ Every spirit that will make us continue in sin, thinking that grace will abound.
