Scripture Union Daily Guide 26 August 2021 Outline:
Forgetfulness prevents us from recalling events that God uses to instruct us. Towards the end of his life, Peter refreshed the believers’ memories of all that he had taught them, even though they knew the teachings and were firmly established in the truth (v.12).
No matter how firmly established we are as Christians, we need to meditate on God’s Word to keep our relationship with the Lord fresh and vibrant.
It is prudent to pass on to generations after us what we learn in the Christian life. Writing enables us to keep such memorials. Peter was martyred around AD 68 for his faith, but we are still benefiting from his writings. Teaching and preaching are means to communicate truth, but embellishing truth with, as Peter describes it, “cleverly devised stories” can obscure a message.
Preaching Christ and Him crucified is the power of salvation. The phrase, “light shining in a dark place” (v.19) reminds us of Jesus’ testimony that He is the light of the world (John 8:12). Learn more about this light from John 1:5 and 1 John 1:7.
The truth about Jesus, Peter emphasizes, “is completely reliable” and worthy of close attention (v.19). Note three facts that all prophets should note from vs.20-21.

• Pray for Christians who are being persecuted as a result of their faith to have courage and perseverance. Pray for God,s speedy intervention and help.
