OPENING PRAYER: May the meditation of my heart be acceptable unto you, O Lord as I read from your word.
SCRIPTURE READING – Psalms 98:1-9
1 O sing unto the Lord a new song; for he hath done marvellous things: his right hand, and his holy arm, hath gotten him the victory.
2 The Lord hath made known his salvation: his righteousness hath he openly shewed in the sight of the heathen.
3 He hath remembered his mercy and his truth toward the house of Israel: all the ends of the earth have seen the salvation of our God.
4 Make a joyful noise unto the Lord, all the earth: make a loud noise, and rejoice, and sing praise.
5 Sing unto the Lord with the harp; with the harp, and the voice of a psalm.
6 With trumpets and sound of cornet make a joyful noise before the Lord, the King.
7 Let the sea roar, and the fulness thereof; the world, and they that dwell therein.
8 Let the floods clap their hands: let the hills be joyful together
9 Before the Lord; for he cometh to judge the earth: with righteousness shall he judge the world, and the people with equity.
Question(s) For Meditation:
► Q 1: What does the passage teach about God the Father, or God the Son or God the Holy Spirit?
► Q3: Is there any command for me to obey?
► Q6: Is there any prayer for me to remember?
How do you praise God especially when He has done something special in your life? This Psalm is believed to have been composed when the Ark was brought into Jerusalem. What are some of the main praise items in the passage? God has done marvellous things. He is worthy of new songs for the victory He has won for His people. He has brought salvation (Psalms 98:1-3).
The Psalmist knew the depth of God’s working, God’s revelation to Israel and by extension, the entire world. The salvation of Israel from captivity exemplifies the salvation that God will bring about to the world through His son (John 3:16). Jesus was going to save the world from sin and its penalty (Revelation 5:9).
Believers enjoy victory in Christ, salvation and deliverance from the judgment into everlasting life. For this He deserves the praises of His people. The salvation also frees up nature and releases God’s mercies on all He has created (Psalms 98:4,8). Hence, they join in the praise of the creator in their own language. All of creation praises their wonderful creator.
Closing Prayer:
Lord, I join creation to proclaim that you are worthy to be praised.
