TOPIC: Wicked Treasures Or Diligent Hands

Opening Prayer: Open my eyes O Lord that I might behold wondrous things from your word in Jesus name.

Scripture: Proverbs 10:1–17

Reflection
• Is there any example for me to follow or not to follow?
• What is God revealing to me in this passage?

Message: The writer of proverbs discourages his listeners from being lazy. Notice some of the tendencies and activities of the lazy person in vv.4a, 5b, 9b, 15b. The lazy person would loiter around when others go out to work. He might even quote scriptures wrongly and expect to get rich suddenly. That is self–deception which would lead him deeper into poverty. Are there times when we are lazy but keep hoping that God would pour his blessings upon us? That is against his principles.

Another contrast in today’s passage is between the righteous and the wicked. Identify some of these in vv.6, 9, 11, 14 and 16. List others in the passage.

The righteous is the one who has come to seek a relationship with the Lord Jesus Christ. It does not mean that he is perfect, but it means that he lives in the fear of the Lord. His life is ordered by his relationship with the Lord. To preach virtue to the wicked is like pouring water in a basket, but to the righteous, it is a way of life. Wisdom from God makes the difference. Wickedness grieves not only the mother of the wicked but God also because the wicked rejects his rebuke and spurns his love.

⁂ Any new insight or reinforcement of what you already know?
