Topic: God’s Child or The Devil’s?

Opening Prayer: Let me know more of you today dear Lord as I meditate on your word.

Scripture: 1 John 3:1–10

Reflection
• What does the passage teach about God the Father, God the Son or God the Holy Spirit?
• Is there any promise for me to believe or hope for?

It is wonderful to experience the love of God so generously poured upon us and be recognized by him as his children. Meditate on the assurance in v.2. What are the implications of this truth for believers today? See v.3. Do you personally cherish this hope? What truth is being revealed in vv.4–8a?

The good news is that Jesus came to destroy and deliver us from the works of the devil (v.8b), including the power and punishment of sin. A genuinely born–again Christian is set free from the power of, and punishment for sin. Sin no longer has control over their life even though they may stumble. In heaven, believers will be completely free from the presence of sin as well.

While living on earth, the true Christians cannot continue to live in sin, arrogance and haughty pride or boast of their sinful practices. Why (see v.9)? The Bible remains the standard for Christian behaviour and the Holy Spirit enables us to live lives that are pleasing to God. What, according to vv.4, 8 and 10, is the clear contrast between the children of God and the children of the devil?

⁂ Any new insight or reinforcement of what you already know?
