Scripture Union Daily Guide 24 January 2022 MESSAGE
Many times, we find ourselves grappling with the problem of evil. In this Psalm, David gives the explanation for evil and suffering in our society. God’s revelation has come to man in two broad ways: general revelation in nature and special revelation through the Law. Unfortunately, man has rejected both, leading to evil living (Romans 1:19‐23; 2:17‐25).
The Gentile fool has seen all the evidence of God in the universe but rejects it and concludes that God does not exist (v.1). This subsequently dictates how he lives his life and what he does (vs.1b‐3). If there is no God, there is no standard to live by. Everyone does that which gives personal pleasure.
Cheating, oppression and all kinds of immorality are deemed acceptable. The poor and powerless are at the mercy of people who have ruled out God from their lives (vs.4‐6). Wickedness and selfishness become the order of the day.
The Jews who have the Law but refuse to obey it are no different. They act contrary to the Law of God, living solely for themselves at the expense of the poor (vs. 4,6). Romans 3:23 is true and God will act against evil and those who perpetrate it.
