OPENING PRAYER: Open my eyes O Lord that I might behold wondrous things from your word in Jesus name.
TODAY’S SCRIPTURE: Psalm 60:1-12

• Q 1: What does the passage teach about God the Father, or God the Son or God the Holy Spirit?

MESSAGE: Why is Edom the heading of the Psalm when David was fighting on various fronts? The Psalm is associated with the campaign recorded in 2 Samuel 8 when the fact of v.12 and God’s word in v.8 were realized in eventual victory.
Notice the lamentation of David over God’s rejection of His people (vs.1-3). In this difficult situation, David relied on God for help (vs.4-5). Sometimes hardships come our way because of our failure to do what the Lord expects of us. When we discover this is the case, let us promptly confess our sins and return to God. He forgives and restores (1 John 1:9).
Our Lord is in full control of all circumstances (vs.6-8). He cannot be taken by surprise as we sometimes are. The nations are all subject to His authority. Let this truth always comfort us – even in our most difficult circumstances.
Read vs.9-12 again and note how unworthy dependence on man can be. Whenever we are troubled by our enemies, whether human or spiritual, we must seek help from God and from Him alone. Human assistance can be very disappointing, but God is faithful and will give us victory if we come to Him.

Lord Jesus, in times of difficulties, help me to rely on you alone.

► Thank God for His protection, rescue, provision, love and guidance all through the year.
► Thank God for His ever present help that enabled us to continue in Him.
► Pray for grace to remain steadfast in Him in the coming year as we await His return.
