Scripture Union Daily Guide 23 August 2020 Message
The spiritual leadership offered by Solomon in this passage is exemplary. He kept reminding Israel of God’s promises and appealed to the people to walk before God, keeping his commandments, his statutes and his rules. Read vv.56–58.
God’s faithfulness should make us want to love him and serve him better in his church. It could be deduced that Solomon and the people were so dedicated that they offered the sacrifices from a free heart to God. After the dedication ceremony, and the feast that followed, observe what happened in v.66. That is exactly what happens when God’s people worship and give whole–hearted sacrifices to the Lord.
When God’s people are well instructed and properly led by their leaders, it makes the people aware of God’s goodness to them. How much do you appreciate God’s goodness to you? Do you feel happy during times of worship in your life? If not, go before the Lord and find out why you do not enjoy his presence and ask for grace to correct this situation.

Practice/Word Application
• And So? Think of God’s goodness to you and give him a sacrifice of thanksgiving.
Spiritual Poverty
Poverty is lack of sufficiency or adequacy of anything. Some people are rich, safe and respected and yet are spiritually poor. Spiritual prosperity which is often unseen and eternal is more valuable than physical wealth which often makes people feel confident, satisfied and complacent. True riches can only be found in Christ. No matter how much wealth one has acquired in life, if one does not have a vital relationship with Christ, he remains spiritually poor.
