Scripture: Matthew 13:53-58
Question(s) for Reflection
• there any command for me to obey?
Read I John 1:1-2 to see the way Apostle John expressed his own familiarity with the Lord Jesus Christ. Compare this with the way the people of Jesus’ home village expressed same (vs.54-57a)? It is said that, ‘familiarity breeds contempt’. As our relationship with the Lord grows, it does not need to lead to contempt but rather, like John, lead to deeper devotion/reverence, more vibrant zeal, and higher commitment to service. By these we shall experience more and more of His miracles.
We should also beware of becoming so familiar with the word of God, the Bible, that it no longer challenges us deeply (Isaiah 66:2b). What else did the familiarity breed in the village people (v.58)? There is no sin that God cannot forgive except the sin of unbelief. If a man chooses not to believe in Him, God is not going to do anything to change that person. However, by faith in Him, we receive all blessings and we can see His glory right before our eyes (John 11:40).
