Scripture Union Daily Guide – 22 September 2025 | Outline
Job continued to respond to the misguided accusations of his friends. He felt frustrated that they could not understand him. He was not complaining to man but to God, whom he felt was unjust (Job 21:1-4). He acknowledged that the wicked would eventually be punished (Job 21:30; Jude 13), but pointed out that, in reality, many evildoers seem to live comfortable lives, untouched by misfortune, and have “befitting burials.” This made him to question the wisdom and justice of God.
Read Job 21:7-12 and note how Job described the good lives of some wicked people even when they do not acknowledge God (Job 21:13-16). We also see dishonest and corrupt government officials, politicians and even religious leaders amass wealth and power, and succeeding, seemingly without any consequence. Fraudulent people prosper while honest citizens often suffer.
The vulnerable are exploited while the perpetrators seem to evade justice. All these can make us, like Job, to ask questions. While we might not see immediate justice, we can trust in God’s ultimate justice and live with integrity even in the face of apparent inequality and injustice and continue to advocate for righteousness and fairness in our society.
And So
That God doesn’t always punish the wicked immediately does not mean that wickedness has no grave consequences Ecclesiastes 8:11. Judgement is withheld only to give time to repent. God decides when to punish the wicked but ultimately nobody can quibble with God`s judgement.
