Scripture Union Daily Guide 22 April 2023
Scripture Union Daily Guide 22 April 2023, SU Daily Guide Reading for Saturday
TOPIC: Shun Theft or Cheating
OPENING PRAYER: Lord, let the light of your word shine into my life as I meditate on your word.
SCRIPTURE FOR TODAY: Exodus 22:1-15
QUESTION FOR TODAY
• Q 7: What truth is God revealing to me in this passage?
SU DAILY GUIDE FOR TODAY – MESSAGE:
Note the various provisions for ensuring no one is defrauded by his neighbour, and that trust is not readily abused. These laws seek to make stealing and cheating unattractive. You end up paying far more than the value of the goods you stole or wrongly converted to your own use. The passage speaks of our God’s love for justice and fairness. He does not want any person to reap where he has not sown. Those who have worked hard deserve to enjoy the fruits of their labour. Today we have many armed robbers, kidnappers, looters, fraudsters depriving people of their property either by tricks or by force.
Open grazing and wildfire (vs.5-6) are among the major causes of conflict and economic losses in many nations. Ranching is the conventional cattle production method that reduces the possibility of the animal straying to other people’s crops. If anyone must practise open grazing of cattle, sheep, and goat or keep animals such as pigs, fowl and dog free range, they must take responsibility to keep them away from causing losses to neighbours.
PRACTICE/WORD APPLICATION
What’s more? Stealing is not to be mentioned among us (vs.7-15).
• Any new insight or reinforcement of what you already know?
HYMN: ’Tis So Sweet To Trust In Jesus
1. ’Tis so sweet to trust in Jesus,
And to take Him at His word;
Just to rest upon His promise,
And to know, Thus says the Lord!
Refrain: Jesus, Jesus, how I trust Him!
How I’ve proved Him o’er and o’er;
Jesus, Jesus, precious Jesus!
O for grace to trust Him more!
2. O how sweet to trust in Jesus,
Just to trust His cleansing blood;
And in simple faith to plunge me
’Neath the healing, cleansing flood!
3. Yes, ’tis sweet to trust in Jesus,
Just from sin and self to cease;
Just from Jesus simply taking
Life and rest, and joy and peace.
4. I’m so glad I learned to trust Thee,
Precious Jesus, Savior, friend;
And I know that Thou art with me,
Wilt be with me to the end.
