SCRIPTURE READING
Luke 9:43b-50(KJV)
43 And they were all amazed at the mighty power of God. But while they wondered every one at all things which Jesus did, he said unto his disciples,
44 Let these sayings sink down into your ears: for the Son of man shall be delivered into the hands of men.
45 But they understood not this saying, and it was hid from them, that they perceived it not: and they feared to ask him of that saying.
46 Then there arose a reasoning among them, which of them should be greatest.
47 And Jesus, perceiving the thought of their heart, took a child, and set him by him,
48 And said unto them, Whosoever shall receive this child in my name receiveth me: and whosoever shall receive me receiveth him that sent me: for he that is least among you all, the same shall be great.
49 And John answered and said, Master, we saw one casting out devils in thy name; and we forbad him, because he followeth not with us.
50 And Jesus said unto him, Forbid him not: for he that is not against us is for us.
QUESTIONS FOR MEDITATION
►Q1: What does the passage teach about God the Father, or God the Son or God the Holy Spirit?
►Q2: Is there any example for me to follow or not to follow?
►Q3: Is there any command for me to obey?
Scripture Union Daily Guide 21 February 2026 | OUTLINE
Compare the main concerns of Jesus Christ and that of His disciples. For the second time, He was warning them to be prepared for His death. They chose to push away that uncomfortable thought from their minds. It was more important for them to decide who would be team captain under Jesus Christ as team manager. Jesus Christ used a child as an object lesson for them, (Luke 9:47). See how He explains this further in Matthew 18:3-4.
What do you think of people who call themselves Christians but do not belong to your own group? How about those other denominations where people worship Christ in a very different way from your own? Do you judge the faith of individual Christians based on their denomination? Then you need to learn the same lesson which Jesus Christ teaches His disciples here (Luke 9:20). Always remember that on the Day of Judgment, God will not ask about the denominations or churches to which we belong but whether we have been redeemed by the blood of the Lamb.
Food for Thought
Jesus can live comfortably with people you and I cannot stand. After all, He does the same with us despite our failings!
