Scripture Union Daily Guide – 20 January 2026 | OUTLINE

Zedekiah the King, sent Pashur and Zephaniah the priest to Jeremiah, requesting for God’s intervention and deliverance for Judah from Nebuchadnezzar and his invading army. Why (Jeremiah 21:1-2)? Read Jeremiah 21:3-7 for God’s response to Zedekiah. God did not only refuse to help but also promised to fight against him with an outstretched arm and in His anger, fury and great wrath, deliver him and his subjects to the king of Babylon. In the past, God used His outstretched arm to fight for His children (Deuteronomy 4:34), but now due to disobedience, He would fight against them.

Furthermore, the Lord addressed the people of Judah. Read Jeremiah 21:8-10 and note the details. Although the Lord did not give the King any hope in His message, He gave the people hope, if they obeyed His instructions. The only safe way is submission to God’s will, even when we do not understand (Isaiah 1:18-20).

Finally, the Lord warned the ruling house of David about injustice (Jeremiah 21:12), pride (Jeremiah 21:13) and their consequences (Jeremiah 21:14). Our God is a covenant-keeping God. “To the faithful, He shows Himself faithful…. “ (Psalms 18:25).

And So
Fear God and keep His commandments!
