Scripture Union Daily Guide – 2 October 2025 | OUTLINE
What a privilege we have to belong to Christ’s family (Hebrews 2:11)! Therefore, frail and weak as we are, if Christ is not ashamed to call us His brothers and sisters, how can we be ashamed of Him before people? If we feel shy of identifying with Christ, there is a warning in Luke 9:26 that we must heed. What two attributes of God do we note in Hebrews 2:10-11?
Christ’s humanity and divine calling as “a merciful and faithful” high priest (Hebrews 2:14,17) strengthen our confidence and trust in Him. The assurance in Hebrews 2:14-15 should erase the fear of death which enslaves, because in Christ, death is only a transition to glory; a better life in eternity.
The basis of Christ’s compassion towards us is His love for us. So, “because He Himself suffered when He was tempted, He is able to help those who are being tempted” (Hebrews 2:18). When we sincerely endure sufferings for the sake of our faith, we can then be in a position to help other brethren who are suffering. For “with the comfort we ourselves receive from God, we can comfort others” (2 Corinthians 1:3-4). What further encouragement is there for us in Hebrews 2:18 as we go through suffering and trials?
