OPENING PRAYER: May the meditation of my heart be acceptable unto you, O Lord as I read from your word.
SCRIPTURE READING – Psalms 97:1-12(NKJV)
The Lord reigns;
Let the earth rejoice;
Let the multitude of [a]isles be glad!
2 Clouds and darkness surround Him;
Righteousness and justice are the foundation of His throne.
3 A fire goes before Him,
And burns up His enemies round about.
4 His lightnings light the world;
The earth sees and trembles.
5 The mountains melt like wax at the presence of the Lord,
At the presence of the Lord of the whole earth.
6 The heavens declare His righteousness,
And all the peoples see His glory.
7 Let all be put to shame who serve carved images,
Who boast of idols.
Worship Him, all you gods.
8 Zion hears and is glad,
And the daughters of Judah rejoice
Because of Your judgments, O Lord.
9 For You, Lord, are most high above all the earth;
You are exalted far above all gods.
10 You who love the Lord, hate evil!
He preserves the souls of His saints;
He delivers them out of the hand of the wicked.
11 Light is sown for the righteous,
And gladness for the upright in heart.
12 Rejoice in the Lord, you righteous,
And give thanks [b]at the remembrance of [c]His holy name.

Scripture Union Daily Guide 2 June 2025 (Monday) OUTLINE:
Psalms 97 celebrates the coming of Christ. Wherever the Lord reigns, He bring joy to His people, and they respond with praise (Psalms 97:1). His reign extends over all the universe including the islands! How do you feel about this reign?
However, for those who reject Christ, there will be much terror and trembling. Notice the judgments that will accompany the coming of the Messiah-King (Psalms 97:2-5). He is a just God and He will execute a just judgment (Psalms 97:2b) inflicting vengeance on His enemies. He is coming to reign, and under His reign all His enemies will be destroyed. Think of someone who you know has rejected the Lord. Talk to God about this person so that he/she may repent.
Observe the contrast that the Psalmist makes between those who worship false gods and images and the true worshippers of the holy Lord (Psalms 97:7,8-9). On one hand, false worshippers will be disappointed and put to shame as they discover that their confidence in these images was in vain. They relied on what could not help them. On the other hand, God’s followers will be joyful.
And So:
The Psalmist makes it clear in v.10 that a person will show his love for God by hating every form of evil. Allow the Lord to search your heart and see if there is anything you should repent of (Psalms 139:23-24).
