TOPIC: For the Service of the Lord!

• Is there any example for me to follow or not to follow?
Today’s passage briefly mentions King David stepping down in old age and installing his son, Solomon, as successor (vs.1-2). Then it details David’s plans for the men who would build the Temple and serve in God’s House after his death. Unlike the census of his soldiers (21:4-7), God does not condemn this census. While the former was commissioned to show how powerful David thought he had become, this was simply a record of the Levites who would serve in the Temple.
David knew that if God was to be glorified, the builders and religious leaders must be prepared and organized. Often, local church programs or mission projects concentrate on financial aspects to the neglect of feasibility studies, planning, and vital spiritual preparations. God’s work must also encourage the use of different talents available. Being sensitive to changing circumstances of Israel as a nation (v.25), David made appropriate changes to the duties of the Levites (vs.26, 28-32).
The foundation of our faith and salvation in Christ is fixed, but we must prayerfully seek to know how to communicate and live out the Gospel in our changing communities and generations.
