Scripture Union Daily Guide 19th January 2025 – OUTLINE
commanded the Israelites to send any person who is sick with leprosy (most skin diseases) outside the camp (today’s isolation ward) whether they are children, parents, or siblings. Why? Read Numbers 5:1-3 again. This was a cleansing act to prevent the spread of the disease in the camp. That would be disastrous for the large group of people living in very close proximity.
God expects us to be totally loyal to Him and this requires a good measure of trust on our part. His judgments have a righteous purpose, and it is always for our good. Every known sin against anyone must be confessed to God and atoned for (Numbers 5:8b). And in such situation of a trespass against somebody, one should be able to say, “I am sorry” to the person we have grieved (Numbers 5:7; James 5:15-16). Because we find it difficult to say these three words, simple disagreements have resulted in bitterness, enmity, fighting, murders, and wars (Ephesians 4:31-32).
Is there someone you have hurt and to whom you should say, ‘I am sorry’? Then humble yourself and do it and let peace and good neighbourliness reign. And if there is need for physical action or restitution, do it.
