Scripture Union Daily Guide 19 January 2022 | SU Devotional | Message

Yesterday, God promised to give a new heart, His spirit, to replace the heart of stone. Today we see the state of the heart that does not have the breath of God in it. They may look physically fit and active, even fulfilling all their religious demands and bringing their sacrifices to God at the appointed time. However, God sees them differently. They are dry bones, hopelessly dead (vs.1,2).

Notice the discussion between God and the prophet (vs.3‐6). God could act directly to bring life to the dry bones without Ezekiel’s involvement, but He chose to partner with men to fulfil His purpose in the world. Ezekiel’s role was to prophesy “as I was commanded” (vs.7,10) similar to our role today in sharing the Good News with people around us.

Unless the Lord opens our eyes to see the spiritual state of the Church, we will never realise that thousands who march into our churches each Sunday are without hope of eternal life. The Holy Spirit uses the word of God, mixed with faith, to help revive the Church making it a vast army, ready to do battle for Him.

Practice/Word Application
So what: Prophesy life to one or two dry bones around you today by sharing Christ’s love with them.

• Any new insight or reinforcement of what you already know?
