Scripture Union Daily Guide 18th November 2020 Today’s Message

TOPIC: God, Saviour And Deliverer

Opening prayer: Help me dear Lord to meet with you as I meditate on your word in Jesus name

Scripture: Psalm 119:145–176

Reflection
• Is there any command for me to obey?
• Is there any prayer for me to remember?

God, Saviour and Deliverer Today’s reading is the last four of the twenty–two stanzas of Psalm 119. Vv.145–152: The psalmist cries out to God for help, trusting that God will answer and deliver him. In his need, he is willing to have a personal “all night” meditation (and prayer) (v.148). When we come to God with such a deep desire for his help, he hears us. Vv.153–160: There are those who persecute him (v.157) but his confidence is that the Lord will preserve his life (v.156). What attributes of God does he mention in his prayer? It is what we know about God that gives us confidence in prayer. .

Note the number of times and how he pleaded with God to revive him (vv. 154b, 156b, 159b). Vv.161–168: Do you sometimes feel helpless against those in authority who pick on you (v.161)? Note three things the writer does at such times that keep him going? Make them your regular practice. Vv.169–176: In the first half of this stanza, the Psalmist speaks of what he will continue to do even if the issues are not resolved. In the second half, he speaks of what he desires the Lord to do. In the last verse, he feels like a “lost sheep” and cries to the Good Shepherd who is forever seeking the lost.

⁂ Any new insight or reinforcement of what you already know?
