Scripture Union Daily Guide 18 July 2020 – No Other Name But the Name of Jesus

Opening Prayer: Oh Lord, grant me divine guidance as I read and meditate on your word in Jesus name.

Scripture: Acts 4:1–12

Reflection
• Is there any example for me to follow or not to follow?
• What is God revealing to me in this passage?

There is a major difference between the Pharisees and Sadducees. Unlike the Pharisees, the Sadducees denied the resurrection of the dead. They were angry on hearing the Apostles teach the risen Christ as proof of the resurrection. They had the Apostles arrested and eventually brought to face the Council.

Note the fearless manner in which Peter states his case. What made him so fearless (v.8)? It was only through the power of the Holy Spirit that the once fearful apostle could now share his faith (cf. Luke 12:11–12) and even point out the responsibility of the rulers in Jesus’ crucifixion.

There are those today who believe that there is more than one way to heaven. They claim that the way is not important; what is important is that we are sincere. Others say just one way would be too limiting for the Almighty God in whom there is no impartiality (Romans 2:11–15). Peter in his intervention, focuses on Jesus, the cornerstone that the builders rejected.

Jesus whom God raised from the dead. Jesus, whose name cannot be compared with any other. Jesus’ name, the only name that brings salvation (vv.10–12). How does the Apostle’s emphasis help you respond to people who hold this multi–route position?

⁂ Any new insight or reinforcement of what you already know?
