SCRIPTURE UNION DAILY GUIDE 17 JULY 2026 OUTLINE

Everybody now wants to win David’s heart, including Shimei, the one who earlier rained abusive words and curses on David, and pelleted stones on his household and companions as he was running away to escape Absalom’s assault (2 Samuel 16:5-12). Ziba, Saul’s steward; is also submitting to the king to do whatever he wished (2 Samuel 19:16-18)!

What can we learn from Shimei’s action and David’s response (2 Samuel 19:18b-23)? Similarly, the King of kings is ever ready to accept us and forgive all our sins, no matter how bad they may be if only we repent and confess (see also Isaiah 1:18-20; John 6:37). Mephibosheth is another personality we can learn from in our relationship with the Lord Jesus.

Notice that even though he could not follow the king because of his physical disability, he was grieving over David’s plight all through until his safe return (2 Samuel 19:24). To what extent are we burdened over the affliction of the body of Christ in various nations today?

Like David, the Lord wants us to always identify with Him by caring for the afflicted (2 Samuel 19:25; Matthew 25:35-40). Read 2 Samuel 19:24-30 and compare 2 Samuel 16:1-4. Should David not change his decision, knowing the truth about Mephibosheth?
