TOPIC: The Lord Reigns!
Opening Prayer
Oh Lord, grant me divine guidance as I read and meditate on your word in Jesus name.
Scripture Reading
Psalms 99:1-9
1 The Lord is king!
Let the nations tremble!
He sits on his throne between the cherubim.
Let the whole earth quake!
2 The Lord sits in majesty in Jerusalem,[a]
exalted above all the nations.
3 Let them praise your great and awesome name.
Your name is holy!
4 Mighty King, lover of justice,
you have established fairness.
You have acted with justice
and righteousness throughout Israel.[b]
5 Exalt the Lord our God!
Bow low before his feet, for he is holy!
6 Moses and Aaron were among his priests;
Samuel also called on his name.
They cried to the Lord for help,
and he answered them.
7 He spoke to Israel from the pillar of cloud,
and they followed the laws and decrees he gave them.
8 O Lord our God, you answered them.
You were a forgiving God to them,
but you punished them when they went wrong.
9 Exalt the Lord our God,
and worship at his holy mountain in Jerusalem,
for the Lord our God is holy!
Question for Meditation
► Q 1: What does the passage teach about God the Father, or God the Son or God the Holy Spirit?
Scripture Union Daily Guide – 17 August 2025 OUTLINE
God is the One who is depicted in Israel’s Tabernacle as being enthroned on the Mercy Seat, over-arched by the wings of the cherubim in the Holy of Holies (Psalms 99:1; Exodus 25:17-20). He is the Lord, not only in Zion but the world over, and He is the holy One whose great and awesome name is to be praised by all mankind (Psalms 99:2-3). He is known in Israel as “the Lord our God,” (Psalms 99:5,6,9). It is on this God that Moses, Aaron and Samuel called, and He answered them. If the king of Israel loves justice, establishes righteousness, and does what is just and right (Psalms 99:4), it can only be because he is under the sway of this King of ALL kings.
Before the might of this awesome God, the earth shakes. The only proper response for His human creatures is to tremble before Him and worship at His footstool (Psalms 99:1,5). Thankfully, we Gentiles too, being part of the nations (Psalms 99:1), can respond to this call to worship. More so as we know His forgiveness in a manner that the prophets of old did not!
Adoration
“What a mighty God we serve! Heaven and earth adore Him; and angels fall before Him! What a mighty God we serve!”

The God incarnate, Man divine,
And crown Him Lord of all.

The wormwood and the gall,
Go spread your trophies at His feet,
