Scripture Union Daily Guide 16th October 2024 – MESSAGE
Some people are seriously insecure in their personality. They are “paranoid,” living in constant fear of what others think of them. They hear words that are not said and read wrong meanings into what is said. As a result, they manufacture enemies where none exists. King Saul was that sort of person (vs.8-9; 15). This could be one of the ways demonic spirits manifested in his life (vs.10-11). Beware of suspicious spirit.
Compare this with the secured personality demonstrated by his son. Far from being threatened by David, he accepted and loved the new national hero (vs.1-4). David too had this sense of personal security which made him a respected leader, although youthful (vs.14-16), and in spite of his humble background (v.18). What was it that made the difference in his life (v.14)?
Living by suspicion is different from being led by the Holy Spirit. Suspicion can lead to jealousy and hatred which can lead to physical murder or murderous mind – wishing someone to die or incur disaster! This is a condition of witchcraft. Saul degenerated to this level.
Thank God that in Jesus Christ we have been delivered from suspicious spirit. As St Paul puts it, “For he has rescued us from the kingdom of darkness and transferred us into the Kingdom of his dear Son” (col:13).
Practice/Word Application
So what: Deal with the spirit of suspicion and jealousy before it deals with you and finish you.
