Our Master Jesus ascended to heaven about 2,000 years ago. He is coming back soon. What are we expected to be doing while waiting for his return?
Read Luke 12:35-40 again. Take particular note of the expression, ‘Keep your lamps burning’ (Luke 12:35). We must be at alert, ready, constantly filled and being led by the Spirit! That is the attitude expected of us as faithful servants while we await Christ’s return because he would come when we least expect (Luke 12:40). Take note from Luke 12:37 that Christ is not tired of serving his people; even when he returns; he will serve his faithful servants.
While Christ is yet to appear, we must also keep working (Luke 12:41-48). We have each been given various tasks to do. Note that God’s judgement is fair. God will not hold us responsible for assignments he has not endowed us with the capacity to do (Luke 12:47-48). When our master comes, we shall be rewarded based on our faithfulness in carrying out the duty he assigned us and the grace and gifts he gave us.
