TOPIC: Jesus Cares for the Vulnerable
OPENING PRAYER: May my heart, O Lord, be receptive to your word as I meditate on it.
SCRIPTURE FOR TODAY: JOHN 9:35-41
35 Jesus heard that they had cast him out; and when He had found him, He said to him, “Do you believe in the Son of [a]God?”
36 He answered and said, “Who is He, Lord, that I may believe in Him?”
37 And Jesus said to him, “You have both seen Him and it is He who is talking with you.”
38 Then he said, “Lord, I believe!” And he worshiped Him.
39 And Jesus said, “For judgment I have come into this world, that those who do not see may see, and that those who see may be made blind.”
40 Then some of the Pharisees who were with Him heard these words, and said to Him, “Are we blind also?”
41 Jesus said to them, “If you were blind, you would have no sin; but now you say, ‘We see.’ Therefore your sin remains.
QUESTION FOR REFLECTION
• Q2: Is there any example for me to follow or not to follow?
DAILY GUIDE 15TH FEBRUARY 2024 DEVOTIONAL OUTLINE:
How does Jesus’ care for the man born blind challenge us (vs.35-38)? Jesus probably searched for him when He heard that he had been thrown out. People who are persecuted for their conviction about Jesus need our care. We need to be sensitive to their needs. For the first time after many days, we see Jesus revealing Himself to the man He healed.
Notice that the man was sincere and did not claim to have known Jesus as the Son of man (v.36). It is costly assumption for anyone to claim to be a Christian when they have not understood the new birth experience! Our faith in Christ Jesus should lead to true worship (v.38; See Romans 12:1-2).
What example do we see in the Pharisees (v.40)? It is very dangerous for anyone to hear God’s word and allow selfishness and envy to choke their hearts such that it does not impact their lives.
