Question(s) for Reflection
• What does the passage teach about God the Father, or God the Son or God the Holy Spirit?
Scripture Union Daily Guide 15 February 2022 MESSAGE
Detailed dimensions of the altar of sacrifice are provided in vs.13‐17. Then we are told of the sacrifices on it. What is the purpose of these first sacrifices on the rebuilt altar, (vs.20;21, 26)? What is the other purpose of the sacrifices, besides purifying the altar itself, (vs.21, 25, 27)?
Notice that, unlike other sacrifices which are eaten by the priests and the people, the animals for the sin offering are burned completely (see Exodus 13‐14). Thus we see three things happen: the altar is cleansed; the sins are purged, and peace is re‐established between God and His people. How do all of these apply to us in the New Testament age?
We no longer need an altar for the sacrifice of animals, because Jesus Christ has been sacrificed once for all on our behalf. We have a commentary on this passage in Hebrews 13:11‐12. What similarities and differences do you see between what Jesus Christ did and what the priests did? The next five verses in the reference, (Hebrews 13:13‐18), tell us what we need to do as a result.
Practice/Word Application
So what? What do you do next when prayers seem to go unanswered? What lessons do we learn from Job 13:15 and Daniel 3:16‐18?
• Any new insight or reinforcement of what you already know?
Closing Prayer
• Dear Lord help me to always trust in you and in your all‐sufficient power at all times.
