Scripture Union Daily Guide 14 May 2022 MESSAGE
God who orders the destiny of people, changes the name of Sarai to Sarah (vs.15–16) just as He had done for Abraham (see v.5). What do you learn about God from His dealings with Abraham and his family? Is Abraham’s reaction in vs.17–18 a sign of unbelief or an expression of joy and bewilderment? Compare his reaction here with that in Genesis 15:4–6. See also Romans 4:19–22.
Parents should be concerned about their children’s future and relationship with God, like Abraham (v.18). Notice God’s response to his question and request (vs.19–21). What do they teach us about God? God has a peculiar and wonderful plan for each of us. Abraham obeyed God without wasting time (vs.22–27). Despite his age, he and every male member of his family got circumcised as God had instructed him. Does this prompt and complete obedience of Abraham challenge you as a Christian? See Psalm 119:60.

Prayer for the week
• Pray for the educational sector of Nigeria. Pray against the falling standard, poor and weak teachings and examination malpractice. Pray for Christian students that they will continue to shine as light.

› His love and plan for our lives.
› The wisdom and for power of God that makes the cross of Christ effective in our lives.
PRAY FOR:
› Grace to daily look unto Jesus the author and finisher of our faith.
› Humility to daily take up our cross and all that God allows our way even as we follow him.
› Help from above to enable us live the crucified life that makes no room for sin or compromise.
PRAY AGAINST:
∷ Unworthy walk and work that will make us enemies instead of friends of Christ.
∷ Living in sin instead of living in righteousness thereby defiling the name of our God.
