Scripture Union Daily Guide 13 May 2022  Topic: Walk Before Me And Be Blameless (v. 1)

Opening Prayer: Plant my steps in the sure promises of your word today, dear Lord.

Scripture: Genesis 17:1‐14

Question(s) for Reflection
• What does the passage teach about God the Father, or God the Son or God the Holy Spirit?
• Is there any command for me to obey?

Scripture Union Daily Guide 13 May 2022 MESSAGE

We are not told God spoke to Abram again for thirteen years after Ishmael was born. Read 16:16 and 17:1. This one came like a message from an old friend. DO you notice Abram’s reaction in vs.3a and 17a? ‘’As for me …’’ (NIV): How many “I will’s” of God can you identify in this passage? This is the practical definition of GRACE. It is an unmerited favour, and exactly what we enjoy through Jesus Christ.

For, if we know Him personally, we can put ourselves in the position of Abram and claim all these promises. ‘As for you …’ (NIV): What part did Abraham have to play for the covenant to hold true for him (vs.9‐14)? Circumcision is an indelible mark of ownership carried about in one’s body for life. It is to serve as a reminder that one is special to God. What does this mean to us as New Testament believers? Read Romans 2:28‐29.

Practice/Word Application
So: Appropriate to your life and family all the promises of God that address your current situation.

• Any new insight or reinforcement of what you already know?

Closing Prayer
• Covenant keeping God, please fulfil your word in my life and give me patience to wait for you.

Offer a prayer of faith in line with Deuteronomy 15:6

THANK GOD FOR:
› His promises that has never failed.
› His promise to hold, strengthen and keep us while the storms of life rage.

PRAY FOR:
› Grace to deliberately present our bodies as a holy and living sacrifice to our God.
› Willing heart to worship God despite all we are passing through knowing that He alone can reverse any situation.
› Renewal of our minds as we discern the will of God even in the circumstance we may find ourselves.

PRAY AGAINST:
∷ Running around instead of sleeping at the feet of the Master even in this circumstance you are in.
∷ Listening to the devil instead of listening to God who has said “Be still”.
