Note the warnings Jesus gave in the passage and the four contrasting objects He used to teach about the Kingdom of God (Matthew 7:13-14,17,21-23,24-27).
It is rightly said, “Any dead fish can move downstream; but it takes a live one to swim against the tide.” We have the choice either to follow the easy-going, effortless way of the world or the narrow road of self-denial and disciplined lifestyle. Satan has sent many liars and false prophets to encourage many to opt for the broad and easy way. Their teachings seem reasonable, attractive, and harmless but in the end, they prove dangerous and destructive. How are we to recognise them (Matthew 7:16-20) and avoid their deceit (Psalm 119:11)?.
Two buildings may appear very similar in every way but like the trees, where it matters most is where they differ, the foundation. And that determines whether they can weather the storms of life or not. We will all face challenges in life, Christian or not. To weather them, we must ensure we anchor our lives on the Rock of Ages, our Lord Jesus, and His word. However, studying the Bible is not enough to sustain us. What else must we do (Matthew 7:24a; James 1:22-25)?
