Scripture Union Daily Guide 12 March 2026 | OUTLINE
Read Jeremiah 34:1-7 again, and observe God’s concern for Zedekiah. When we reflect on the state of the world and our circumstances, it may seem like God is unconcerned. However, the Scriptures assure us that God is not only concerned, but also speaks concerning our situations if we care to listen.
Although it was dangerous for him, Jeremiah obeyed and faithfully delivered God’s message to Zedekiah (Jeremiah 34:6). This is a good example for us to follow. We should not allow the fear of men to hinder us from carrying out God’s assignment (see Acts:4-19; Acts 5:29).
As a measure to forestall God’s judgement, the people of Jerusalem made a covenant to free all their brethren who had been enslaved, following God’s law (Jeremiah 34:8-10; cf. Exodus 21:2). But not too long afterwards, they violated the covenant (Jeremiah 34:11). Do we also behave like the people of Jerusalem today? What was God’s response to their attitude (Jeremiah 34:12-22)?
Different forms of slavery still exist in our society today. As believers, we should remember that God is concerned about justice, especially, for vulnerable people, and He will punish those who pervert it.
