• Is there any command for me to obey?
• Is there any warning for me to heed?

Scripture Union Daily Guide 12 January 2022 | SU Devotional | Outline

Today we begin to see how God dealt with the internal problems that affected His people. First, He sent His watchmen to them. Their duty is to warn the people of impending danger (approaching enemy army) so they will not be caught unaware. The warning helps God’s people to prepare to fight or run for their lives, if need be. Refusal on the part of the watchman to raise an alarm will make him responsible for any casualty the people suffer (v.6). On the other hand, the people become responsible for their own lives if they refuse to escape when they hear the alarm (vs.1‐5). What does this tell us of the grave responsibility we have towards sinners or of sinners who hear God’s word from his messengers? Our Lord Jesus before His departure handed over to His disciples including us, the duty of watchmen. He charges us to be His faithful witnesses to all nations, reconciling them to Himself through the gospel message (vs.7‐10; Acts 1:8; 2 Corinthians 5:18‐20). God calls us to warn sinners to repent of their sins because He wants them to be saved (vs.11‐16; 2 Peter 3:9). He receives a genuinely repentant sinner but casts away those who refuse to repent of their sins (vs.17‐19; Isaiah 55:6‐7).

PRAYER FOCUS

LET YOUR LIGHT SHINE
In the same way, let your light shine before others, so that they may see your good works and give glory to your father who is in heaven. Matthew 5:16

THANK GOD FOR:
› Making us the light of the world and setting us upon the hill for the world to see. › Giving us the enabling grace to shine before others daily in all our endeavours.

PRAY FOR:
• Determined daily study of the word of God so it will guide our feet and provide a light to your path.

• Grace to be exemplary in all we do so our life will turn many to righteousness.

• Meekness and teachable spirit, so we will continue to learn how to remain as light of the world.

PRAY AGAINST:
∷ Following the world and not following Christ thereby walking in darkness even when we say we are working for Christ. ∷ Forgetting that we are a chosen race, a royal priesthood thereby living like the people of the world.
