Scripture Union Daily Guide 12 February 2022 MESSAGE
The new temple is different from the old temple in scale but not in the purpose it serves. We can recognize certain features of the old temple here as well. For example, there is the wood panelling and the artistic decorations (v.16, 17‐19, 25).
There is the outer courtyard for the people, (vs.17‐18, 20) and the inner courtyard for the priests (vs.18, 28). There are the rooms for storage, and the service quarters reserved for the priests, (40:11‐12; 41:11).
There is provision for the offering of animal sacrifices, (vs.38‐43). There is also the Holy Place and the Most Holy Place, (vs.15, 21, 23). However, there is also evidence of change. In addition to the sheer size as we observed yesterday, the new structure is a lot more solid, which gives an indication and hope for increased stability and security.
Just think of the outer wall which is ten feet high and ten feet thick! In spite of all these, the old order is still in place. The priests are separated from the people, and the Holy Place is separated from the most Holy Place. A truly new order is yet to come.
Practice/Word Application
For meditation: Read Hebrews 9: 8‐12 to see what is the true, new order.
