TOPIC: Encouragement from History

OPENING PRAYER: Dear Lord, may the entrance of your word bring light and life to all I will do today.

SCRIPTURE FOR TODAY: Psalm 44:1-17

QUESTIONS FOR REFLECTION
• Q 2: Is there any example for me to follow or not to follow?
• Q 6: Is there any prayer for me to remember?

In hard times a whole nation or individual could lose hope. It is good to take time and reflect on the past, even from historic narrations, and recount God’s deliverances of His people from various calamities (vs.1-3). Are you or your nation currently passing through such hard times as wars, famine, or persecution for being Christians?

Israel acknowledged the supremacy of God over their enemies who were well equipped with weapons of war. Read Psalm 20:7 and compare with vs.4-8. If the Lord is truly our King, putting our trust in Him brings victory. We do not need to trust our effort (v.6). Note that, even though we may be faithfully serving God and doing His will, God sometimes allows us to face challenges and defeat by those who neither know nor worship Him, even death. That was the experience of the Psalmist and God’s people (vs.9-17).

Our response to that is not to complain but to hand over the situation to Him. We too can say with Job, ‘Though he slay me, yet will I trust Him’ (Job 13:15, NKJV).

PRACTICE/WORD APPLICATION
And So: Determine to remain faithful to God during difficult times, remembering how He had delivered you in the past.

• Any new insight or reinforcement of what you already know?

CLOSING PRAYER
May I boast in you alone all day long, O God, and praise your name for ever (v.8).

Offer a prayer of faith in line with Joel 2:21

ONE YEAR BIBLE READING PLAN
Joshua 3, 4, Ephesians 1.
