TOPIC: My Soul Silently Waits for God Alone
OPENING PRAYER: Dear Lord, grant me understanding and illumination as I ponder on your word in Jesus name.
SCRIPTURE: Psalm 62:1-12
Question(s) for Reflection
• Q 1: What does the passage teach about God the Father, or God the Son or God the Holy Spirit?
• Q 2: Is there any example for me to follow or not to follow?
• Q 5: Is there any warning for me to heed?
MESSAGE: There is so much oppression in the world today that many have been forced to trust in oppression and hope in robbery (v.10). I was told of a fine brother whose farm was invaded by marauding herdsmen, leaving woes of destruction in their track. In frustration he joined a counter gang to fight the herdsmen. Today he is singing a contradictory tune and has departed from the Lord.
Read vs.1-5 meditatively and note the resolve of the Psalmist. Amid suffering, oppression, and life’s contradictions, he advised his soul to wait silently on God alone. In the boiling and tumultuous world in which we find ourselves today — terrorism, hunger, earthquake, wars, bad and wicked government, sickness, COVID, loss of loved ones, etc., — calmness and peace can only be found in God. Compare Psalm 46:1-7. He is our present help in trouble.
Read vs.6-8 & 11 silently and slowly, meditate on and appropriate to yourself what the Psalmist said about God and you shall find peace amid the storms. Quietness is lost to this generation.
V.9 should encourage you not to envy the wicked nor follow their evil ways (cf. Psalm 37:1-3, 7-11).
