Scripture Union Daily Guide 11 April 2024 (Thursday) Devotional Message

Scripture Union Daily Guide 11 April 2024 TOPIC: The God Who Knows No Impossibilities

OPENING PRAYER: Dear Lord, expose me to your truth as I read your word in Jesus name.

TODAY’S SCRIPTURE: Isaiah 44:21-28 (NIV)

21 “Remember these things, Jacob, for you, Israel, are my servant. I have made you, you are my servant; Israel, I will not forget you.
22 I have swept away your offenses like a cloud, your sins like the morning mist. Return to me, for I have redeemed you.”
23 Sing for joy, you heavens, for the LORD has done this; shout aloud, you earth beneath. Burst into song, you mountains, you forests and all your trees, for the LORD has redeemed Jacob, he displays his glory in Israel.

Jerusalem to Be Inhabited
24 “This is what the LORD says— your Redeemer, who formed you in the womb: I am the LORD, the Maker of all things, who stretches out the heavens, who spreads out the earth by myself,
25 who foils the signs of false prophets and makes fools of diviners, who overthrows the learning of the wise and turns it into nonsense,

26 who carries out the words of his servants and fulfills the predictions of his messengers, who says of Jerusalem, ‘It shall be inhabited,’ of the towns of Judah, ‘They shall be rebuilt,’ and of their ruins, ‘I will restore them,’
27 who says to the watery deep, ‘Be dry, and I will dry up your streams,’
28 who says of Cyrus, ‘He is my shepherd and will accomplish all that I please; he will say of Jerusalem, “Let it be rebuilt,” and of the temple, “Let its foundations be laid.” ’

QUESTIONS FOR REFLECTION
* Q 1: What does the passage teach about God the Father, or God the Son or God the Holy Spirit?
* Q4: Is there any promise for me to believe or hope for?

DAILY GUIDE FOR TODAY 11TH APRIL 2024 MESSAGE

Following from his condemnation of idolatry, the prophet calls on Israel to receive the forgiveness of their sins which God has freely offered them, “Return to me, for I have redeemed you” (v.22). Why does the prophet call on the whole of creation to burst out in songs of praises to God (v.23)?

Notice the way God introduces Himself in v.24 and what He does in His sovereignty (vs.25-26a). He promised in His mercy, to restore Jerusalem and the town of Judah (vs.26b-27). This should be a great encouragement to us whenever we pass through trying period.

Although Cyrus was a pagan king, God called him “my shepherd” (v.28) and used him to restore the desolation of His people. God can use anyone, anywhere (even a pagan or leaders who may have come to power by fraudulent means) to fulfil His purpose for His suffering people.

Let us put our faith in our Lord God and trust Him in all our endeavours. He will turn round that which may seem impossible in our lives when we seek to live in obedience to Him in all things.
