Scripture Union Daily Guide 10 June 2022 MESSAGE

Even at old age, God blessed Abraham with many children, in addition to Isaac and Ishmael (vs.1‐4; cf. Psalm 127:3‐5). But managing a large family can be a tough job for an old man to handle. However, Abraham was able to maintain family unity and cohesion while he was alive.

Often, after the death of the head of the family (father), the whole family is thrown into confusion and sharp disagreement. For Abraham, the unity and cohesion in his family continued after his death. There was no struggle over sharing of properties among his children.

What did he do to ensure this (vs.5‐6)? What can we learn from him? Many Christians are very reluctant and unconcerned about writing a will but that is one thing we can do to save our families from confusion and chaos after our transition. Read v.9 again.

Can you see another sign of unity here? Note that every descendant of Abraham was blessed (vs.11, 12‐17). If we also serve that Lord faithfully, He will bless us and our children after us (Psalm 128:1‐4).

Practice/Word Application
So What: If you have never considered writing your will, take a decision to do so today.

• Any new insight or reinforcement of what you already know?

Scripture Union Daily Guide 10 June 2022 Closing Prayer
• Pray that you will not be a source of disunity in your family (v.18).

Offer a prayer of faith in line with Psalms 118:25 ‐ 26
