Opening Prayer: Make my life oh Lord a reflection of you as I study your word.
Scripture: Psalm 128: 1–6
Reflection
• Is there any promise for me to believe or hope for?
This Psalm proclaims the blessings that follow those who fear God. Read vv.2–3 & 5–6 again and mention, at least, seven of such blessings. Note the particular reference to wife (v.3a), children (v.3b), and grandchildren (v.6). This points to the fact that true blessing from God must positively impact one’s family. These blessings are hinged on two conditions: (1) the fear of God, and (2) walking in his ways (vv.1& 4).
The fear of God is what makes a person to refuse to offend him especially when nobody is watching, or when given the opportunity to derive some gain or pleasure that may otherwise accrue (see the examples of Joseph in Genesis 39:7–10 and Nehemiah in Nehemiah 5:15). On the other hand, to walk in God’s ways requires knowing God and his ways. This is possible only through a vital, consistent relationship with Jesus Christ, his living word and by daily meditation on the Bible, his written word (2 Timothy 3:16–17).
From v.3, it can be said that the husband of a woman who fears God will be fruitful. In this context, fruitfulness is not limited to child bearing. It is all–round fruitfulness.
