TOPIC: The Balm in Gilead
Is there no balm in Gilead? Is there no physician there? Why then has not the health of the daughter of my people recovered? – Jeremiah 8:22

Now Jeremiah wondered if the balm was strong enough to heal the putrefying wound of his people’s sins. For the harvest was past. The summer was over. Still they had not turned to God (Jeremiah 8:20).
Isaiah, grieved over the wounding sins of the people, said, Why should you be beaten again, that you revolt more and more? The whole head is sick, and the whole heart faint (1:5).
What could be done? Punishment did not seem to be the answer. Instead God enlisted mercy.
Lord, thank You there is still a balm in Gilead, which heals the sin-sick soul.
