LESSON AIM: To help teenagers understand that worship brings great spiritual rewards, especially joy beyond description and the tangible presence of God.
CENTRAL TRUTH: Worship is a powerful way to connect with God, experience joy, and draw us closer to His presence.
INTRODUCTION: Worship is a fundamental part of our relationship with God. Life has a way of throwing challenges at us that can make us sad or cause us to lose our joy. This is mainly because we have set our hearts on things and see what God promised to give us as an addition (Matt. 6:33). But as we set our hearts on God to seek Him by worshipping Him in spirit and in truth, our joy is full Eph. 5:18-19.
Today, we’ll discover how true worship brings two powerful benefits: unspeakable joy and God’s transforming presence.
STUDY GUIDE:
A. UNSPEAKABLE JOY IN WORSHIP
Joy unspeakable is a term used to describe a deep, profound, and overwhelming sense of joy that is difficult to put into words. It’s a joy that transcends regular joy and is often associated with spiritual experiences, worship, and a sense of connection with God.
B. CHARACTERISTICS OF JOY UNSPEAKABLE:
1. Deep and profound: Joy unspeakable is a deep-seated joy that penetrates to the very core of our being.
2. Overwhelming: It’s an overwhelming sense of joy that can be difficult to contain or express.
3. Transcendent: Joy unspeakable transcends regular joy and is often associated with spiritual experiences.
4. Difficult to put into words. It’s a joy that is difficult to describe or put into words.
5. Associated with worship and spiritual experiences: Joy unspeakable is often experienced in the context of worship, prayer, and other spiritual experiences.
C. BIBLICAL EXAMPLES OF JOY UNSPEAKABLE:
1. Peter’s experience in Acts 2: Peter experiences joy unspeakable as he preaches on the day of Pentecost and sees thousands come to faith in Jesus Christ.
2. Paul’s experience in Philippians 4: Paul experiences joy unspeakable despite being in prison, as he reflects on the Philippians’ support and partnership in the gospel.
3. The Psalmist’s experience in Psalm 16: The Psalmist experiences joy unspeakable as he reflects on God’s presence and goodness in his life.
D. WORSHIP BRINGS US JOY UNSPEAKABLE IN SEVERAL WAYS:
1. Connection with God: Worship helps us connect with God on a deeper level, which brings us joy unspeakable. (Psalm 16:11)
2. Expression of Gratitude: Worship is an expression of gratitude for all that God has done for us, which fills us with joy unspeakable. (Psalm 100:4-5)
3. Experience of God’s Presence: Worship brings us into God’s presence, where we experience joy unspeakable. (Psalm 16:11)
4. Renewal of Our Minds: Worship renews our minds and transforms our perspectives, which brings us joy unspeakable. (Romans 12:2)
5 Sense of Community: Worship brings us together with other believers, creating a sense of community and joy unspeakable (Hebrews 10:24-25)
6. Remembrance of God’s Faithfulness Worship helps us remember God’s faithfulness and goodness, which fills us with joy unspeakable (Psalm 103:2-5)
7 Expression of Love and Adoration: Worship is an expression of our love and adoration for God, which brings us joy unspeakable. (Psalm 18:1-3)
