10 Powerful Prayers for an Unbelieving Husband

Powerful Prayers for an Unbelieving Husband

Wearing the title of ‘wife’ is one of my greatest honors. But one think I quickly learned and most wives who have been married for longer than a month have by now figured out, that it requires a lot of work.

However, let me dare say, the most important “work” we can do as wives and with any title we are given, is the work done on our knees in prayer.

There might be no greater burden to bear for a wife than for her unbelieving husband to come to know the Lord. All else pales in the light of where we will spend eternity. Be encouraged that every prayer, cry, and longing for your husband to come to know the Lord is being heard. Jeremiah 29:12 says, “Then you will call on me and come and pray to me, and I will hear you.”

God not only hears you but know this: your love for your husband is met by an even greater love the Lord has for him as His maker.

Hear hears you so never stop praying. For prayer has the potential to speak to the mountain of unbelief and cast it into the sea. Don’t give up dear sister. God hears you, and He is working.

The following prayers and verses are designed to intercede for the salvation of our unbelieving husbands covering them in God’s mighty power.

1. Pray for a Softened Heart

1. Pray for a Softened Heart

“I will give you a new heart and put a new spirit within you; I will take the heart of stone out of your flesh and give you a heart of flesh.” (Ezekiel 36:26)

Dear God,
We thank you so much for our husbands. We know that you love them more than we do, and you desire to have them hearts turn to you. I pray that you would soften our husband’s heart by turning their unbelieving hardened hearts into a heart of flesh. That our husbands will begin to feel you and feel the prompting and moving of the Holy Spirit in his life. That you would give him a new heart, a clean heart, and a heart after you. We praise you for your promises of truth in Scripture.

In Jesus’ Name,
Amen

2. Pray for Others to Walk into His Life

“He [Jesus] told them, “The harvest is plentiful, but the workers are few. Ask the Lord of the harvest, therefore, to send out workers into his harvest field.” (Luke 10:2)

Dear Lord,
We ask that you send people into out husband’s life to till the soil of his heart, to plant the seeds of truth, and to water his parched soul. Please place people in our husband’s path who will point Him towards you. Allow him to be influenced by men that have a heart after you and help them to bestow their wisdom on our husband’s life. Send the workers Lord to work on the heart of your beloved son.

In Jesus’ Name,
Amen

3. Pray for Him to Experience God’s Love

3. Pray for Him to Experience God’s Love

“But God demonstrates his own love for us in this: While we were still sinners, Christ died for us.” (Romans 5:8)

Heavenly Father,
Please open our husband’s heart to the truth of your love towards him. Reveal to him that you have demonstrated your love for him by sending your son to die for him. Please allow him to know inside that he doesn’t have to get his life perfect and tidied up before he comes to you, but that you accept him just as he is, mess and all. Allow him to see your loving heart towards him as you welcome him in your loving arms.

In Jesus’ Name,
Amen

4. Pray for His Eyes to See Things in a New Way

“And Elisha prayed, and said, “Lord, I pray, open his eyes that he may see.” (2 Kings 2:17)

Dear God,
Just as Elisha prayed for you to open the eyes of the King of Syria to see things from your eyes and not see things that were right in front of him, we ask that you do the same with our husbands. Open our husband’s eyes to see things through your lens. To see their situation with you working on behalf of them. To see your goodness and not their own point of view. We ask that you remove anything hindering their eyesight to seeing you clearly and in truth. Thank you for hearing our prayers Lord.

In Jesus’ Name,
Amen

5. Pray for Wisdom and Leadership

“If any of you lacks wisdom, let him ask of God, who gives to all liberally and without reproach, and it will be given to him.” (James 1:5)

Dear God,
Thank you that even if our husbands don’t yet believe in you, we can pray on behalf of them and you hear our prayers. So today, we ask that you would grant our husband’s wisdom to lead our family. That even if they don’t believe in the word, that you will guide them with every decision. We ask that the Holy Spirit prompt our husbands in every turn and we trust that through our prayers, that you will lead them in the path you want for us. We submit to their decisions and leadership, trusting that they are submitting to you through these prayers and your guidance. Thank you that we can come to the throne and ask anything and thank you for the gift and power of the Holy Spirit.

In Jesus’ name,
Amen

6. Pray for the Enemy’s Plans to Be Intercepted

“[Jesus said,] The thief comes only to steal and kill and destroy; I came that they may have life and have it abundantly.” (James 1:5)

Dear Father,
Please deliver our husbands from the powers of darkness that seek to steal, kill, and destroy him. We ask that you would release the Holy Spirit to thwart the enemy’s tactics, destroy the enemy’s strongholds, and render the enemy omnipotent. I pray, almighty God, that you would destroy the devil’s work in our husband’s life today, tearing down any walls of offenses and sin binding his heart to the lies. May he come to the saving faith in you, releasing everything into your hands.

In Jesus’ Name,
Amen

7. Pray for Repentance and Conviction

“The Lord is not slow in keeping his promise, as some understand slowness. He is patient with you, not wanting anyone to perish, but everyone to come to repentance.” (2 Peter 3:9)

Dear Lord,
Thank you for your promises in Scriptures like these. You do not want our husbands to perish spending eternity in hell separated from you. Rather you want them in heaven rejoicing in your presence. We pray that you do whatever is needed in my husband’s life to bring him to saving faith and belief in you. We ask the Holy Spirit to convict him and turn his heart towards repentance. We trust that you will finish what you have started with him, and we persistently ask for his acceptance of salvation.

In Jesus’ Name,
Amen

8. Pray for Forgiveness

“As far as the east is from the west, so far has He removed our transgressions from us.” (Psalm 103:12)

Dear Father,
We ask that our husbands would know they are forgiven. We ask that you remove any barriers of unworthiness or shame preventing them from experiencing and walking in the fullness of your forgiveness. Teach them through our actions and through your word, that there is nothing too big, no sin too large, nothing – that can separate them from the forgiveness and love that you offer them. Cover them in your blood Lord. We praise you and thank you for sending your son for dying on the cross all our sins.

In Jesus’ Name,
Amen

9. Pray against Negative Influences

“And even if our gospel is veiled, it is veiled to those are perishing. The god of this age has blinded the minds of unbelievers, so that they cannot see the light of the gospel of the glory of Christ, who is the image of God.” (2 Corinthians 4:3-4)

Dear Lord,
Please remove the veil over our husband’s eyes that keeps him from seeing the truth. Remove the influences of the god of this age. Lord, we live in a world full of information overload, so we ask that you would remove anything that he’s susceptible to look at or read easily that distorts that truth of who you are. Remove people, shows, or websites that keep his mind away from your truth. We ask that you would flip the switch and illuminate his mind so that the truth of the gospel becomes clear and he will see that you sent your son Jesus, to die for him. Open his mind to you and remove the access and the desire to negative influences hindering any acknowledgment of you. Thank you for your mighty power!

In Jesus’ Name,
Amen

10. Pray for a Gentle and Quiet Spirit

“Wives, likewise, be submissive to your own husbands, that even if some do not obey the word, they, without a word, may be won by the conduct of their wives when they observe your chaste conduct accompanied by fear. Do not let our adornment be merely outward – arranging the hair, wearing gold, or putting on fine apparel – rather, let it be the hidden person of the heart, with the incorruptible beauty of a gentle and quiet spirit, which is very precious in the sight of God.” (1 Peter 3:1-4)

Dear Lord,
This last prayer is for us as wives. Lord, teach us how to be submissive even if our husband doesn’t quite believe in you yet. We trust that you have him in the palm of your hands, and you are in total control. We ask that you would give us the strength than in you, we may not speak up with words, but rather with a gentle and quiet spirit from within. Lord, we ask that our husbands are influenced by our actions and sweet reactions. That it’s not through our words, but through the way we conduct ourselves. May you radiate off of us from the inside, that our husbands see your heart through us. Allow them to be so attracted to our fear for you, that they want to partake in what we have inside of us. We want to honor you and want to be made precious in your sight. Teach us to be slow to speak and give us wisdom to choose our words wisely. Purify our hearts and make them more like yours and may we one day win our unbelieving husbands over to you. We love you so much Lord, thank you for giving us the gift of our husbands, we surrender them to you.

In Jesus’ Name,
Amen

Always remember that God loves your husband so much more than you ever could, and that he can make miracles! Let these prayers embolden and comfort you as you wait on the Lord.
