Pastor David McGee’s Devotional 3 August 2021 Cross the Bridge Devotional Message
Topic: Faith Is More Than a Noun
Through the Bible…
Morning: Psalm 70, 71, 72
Evening: Romans 4
Proverb: Proverbs 3
Matt 8:10
When Jesus heard it, He marveled, and said to those who followed, “Assuredly, I say to you, I have not found such great faith, not even in Israel!” – NKJV
Dear Friends,
What kind of faith do you have? For too many, it exists in the, “I believe Jesus can save me from my sins,” but there is no real carry over into the, “I will entrust my whole life to Him, and make Him Lord of all!” Many in our society have a misplaced faith. We put our faith in our spouse, kids, job or our own ability to reason things out. Misplaced faith will always lead to misleading results. Either you will be disappointed and walk away from these things, or you will continue to place your faith in them wholly. Either way it’s a losing proposition.
How is your faith walk? Are you moving forward? Your nose and your toes are pointed forward. Your eyes are pointed forward, so don’t look back. Look forward. Are you spiritually growing? Take a step forward this month. Do something for you and your relationship with God or for the family of faith that you don’t normally do. If you don’t attend midweek service nights, come on midweek nights. If you’re spotty on your Sundays, come every Sunday. If you are not serving, jump in and start to serve! If you are not giving, give a gift, better yet, begin to tithe. If you are not inviting people, begin to invite people to church. Take a step forward! Some people say, “Well, I’m not growing in my faith,” like they blame the church for their personal shortcomings or failures or bad decisions – assuming that the church is supposed to make them move. The church is not like an escalator. It is more like a stairway. Stairs give you a way up and a way out and a way to do things much better with love, joy, and peace. Yet, they don’t just take you up while you do nothing and don’t expend any energy. Stairs do work well, but you have to move to make them work. What good changes, what steps forward are you taking that you don’t normally do? Let’s all step forward, love God and love people, and make the world a better place. So… what’s your next step forward?
Life Lesson:
By definition faith is a noun, but it is meant to be lived as a verb!
Lord,
Please help me to put my whole trust in You. Forgive me when I have put my trust and expectation in myself or others around me. Please give me the courage and the strength to grow in my faith walk with you, to continue to move and take steps forward. In Jesus’ name. Amen.
Living to tell what He died to say,
