      TOPIC: Worship

      Today’s Scripture: Mark 12:38-44

Key Verse: She, out of her poverty, put in everything—all she had to live on – Mark 12:44

Message: I use writing to worship and please God, even more so now that health issues often limit what I can do. So, when someone said he found no value in what I wrote, I became sad and fed up. I wondered if there was any point in writing to please God.

Through prayer, reading my Bible and encouragement from other Christian friends, God showed me that only He—not the opinions of other people—can decide what our acts of worship are worth. So I simply asked Him to keep giving me opportunities to live for Him.

Jesus challenges us all to think about how we view worship and giving (Mark 12:41-44). We often think the more we do for God, the better we are. But while the rich people threw lots of money into the temple money box, a poor widow put in just a couple of pennies (v.42). Jesus said her gift was greater than the rest (v.43), even though the amount seemed so small to everyone else (v.44).

Although the widow’s story focuses mainly on money, every act of giving, love and kindness can be an act of worshipping and pleasing God. Like the widow, we worship God when we use whatever He has given us to help His people and show His love. When we let God have the best of our time, skills and effort, we are living lives of worship—with Him at the very centre.

REFLECT: WHEN WE’RE LIVING OUR LIVES FOR GOD, WE ARE ALWAYS WORSHIPPING
