READ: 1 John 4:1-4

1. Beloved, believe not every spirit, but try the spirits whether they are of God: because many false prophets are gone out into the world.
2. Hereby know ye the Spirit of God: Every spirit that confesseth that Jesus Christ is come in the flesh is of God:
3. And every spirit that confesseth not that Jesus Christ is come in the flesh is not of God: and this is that spirit of antichrist, whereof ye have heard that it should come; and even now already is it in the world.
4. Ye are of God, little children, and have overcome them: because greater is he that is in you, than he that is in the world.

BIBLE IN ONE YEAR: Ezra 6-8, John 21:1-25

MESSAGE: Discerning (or testing) of the spirits is simply the ability to distinguish the Spirit of God from demons or human reasoning. We live in a world where pretense and falsehood is the order of the day. Peoples actions around you may not solely stem out of love or understanding. Hence, the need for the gift of the discerning of spirits to test motives.

A lot of children of God have fallen prey to heretical teachings from hirelings who claim to be shepherds. So also, a lot of children of God have been engaged and married to wolves in sheeps clothing. A lot of teenagers have been misled by wrong friendships and relationships that seemed harmless at the beginning. To avoid all these, beloved, you need the gift of the discerning of spirits. The Holy Spirit through this gift will reveal secrets and intents of people to you. This gift was at work in the life of Peter; he immediately knew that Ananias and Sapphira lied about the proceeds from the sale of their land. When you have this gift, you will not make mistakes that will mar your destiny. The Holy Spirit is the giver of this gift and He gives to whomsoever He wills. Ask for it today.

PRAYER POINT: Holy Spirit, please endow me with the gift of the discerning of spirits.
